From the Outgoing President
On Friday, June 4th, your board completed their final meeting as officers of Club Country with election of new officers for the 2010 – 2011 season. I am very fortunate to have had the pleasure of working with different supportive individuals in my past four years as president. I would like to say a special “Thank You” to Bill Herblin. Bill has been the editor and publisher of our club newsletter for the past 5 years. He has also been my guide in the use and upkeep of our DJ software. Your officers would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those dancers who weekly volunteered their services in many ways. You have made our jobs easier.
We all wish the best to our new officers and we will continue to assist and support Club Country in every way possible.

From the Editor
To the best of my knowledge, this will be the last issue of Club Country News. It was started back in 2002 with Kathy Heller as editor, passed on to Donna Lawrence and then to Bette and myself. We have enjoyed publishing the newsletter for the past 5 years and hope that the information and occasional humor(?) has been useful and enjoyable for our members. However, in the current world of text messaging, emails, tweets and twitters, a monthly newsletter is a bit archaic. The main reason for the newsletter was to publish the schedule of planned lessons, so that members could attend the lessons of their choice between 7 and 8 PM. Since lessons will no longer be planned in advance, there is really no reason to put out a newsletter, so it is being terminated.
Adapting to change can be difficult, especially if one does not understand the reason for the change. Club Country does not run itself. Over the past four years, out of a membership of well over 100, only 9 people have been willing to take on the responsibility of becoming an officer or director of the club. When only a few people are willing to take on responsibility, then they are the ones who will decide how the Club operates. If you would like to see it run differently, then you must get involved and become part of the working class.
Club Country is unique. I know of no other venue that is as open, as flexible, as affordable and as comfortable. We get a chance to do line, partner and couples dancing on a floor that is large enough to accommodate all of those styles. I wish the new officers the best of luck and I sincerely hope they can keep Club Country alive and kickin’.

Bill
